They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so we hope our new illustration gets our point across without the need for an explanation...
A lot of business owners and marketing managers we speak to don't realise there is an alternative to playing just music to callers while they're holding the line.
What could you play to callers whilst On-Hold?
Instead of Music On Hold you could be making use of the time callers spend On-Hold to play relevant and targeted marketing messages, to promote your products and services.
Why On Hold Marketing Messages are better than Music On-Hold:
Music is subjective
One persons favourite music track can be another's most hated, that's the kind of passion music evokes in people, so you're never going to please everyone. With On Hold Marketing Messages the music is secondary because the spoken promotional messages are more prominent, so people are listening to the spoken message rather than the music and are less likely to be offended by the music.
Music trends are constantly changing
A music track that's popular and sounds great today, won't sound as current in a years time and could start to annoy people.
Music On-Hold isn't free
If you're playing chart music to callers on hold then you are required by law to have a PRS licence, failure to do so could result in a hefty fine which can even be back dated. The music we use for our On-Hold Marketing Productions is royalty free so you don't have to purchase a PRS licence, saving you money. On Hold Messages can actually generate sales by promoting your products ans services.
Its true people hate to be sold to, but love to buy.
Pushy sales people turn buyers off
How many times have you been approached and pestered by a sales person in a shop, then headed straight for the door? Usually in a mobile phone shop!
Buyers now have more choice and more information than ever
People much prefer to research their purchase and go through the buying process on their own, coming to a decision after looking at all the options - then asking questions just before they're about to buy.
So how is this relevant to On-Hold Messaging?
There are two points:
1. If a caller is about to buy one of your products or services and hears a relevant and targeted message while On-Hold, this confirms their decision to buy was the right one and effectively gives them permission to buy.
2. On-Hold Messages are a subtle form of marketing, you can talk informally to your callers while they're holding the line and plant ideas relating to your products or services.
For example we recently recorded a bunch of On-Hold Messages for a sky diving company. Most people call to book their skydiving experience, so we saw the opportunity to upsell callers. The standard skydive package is to jump from 10,000 feet - however you can upgrade to 15,000 feet which doubles the freefall time and is one of the highest skydives in the UK, who wouldn't want to upgrade for twice the fun!
Since launching their new On-Hold Audio more callers have asked about upgrading to the 15,000 foot jump - all because one of their On-Hold Messages simply mentioned that they could upgrade and have more fun, taking on one of the UKs highest skydives.

Pepsi Max has taken outdoor advertising to the next level
Pepsi Max took over a London bus stop on New Oxford Street and installed a digital camera facing down the road and a large digital display in the shelter, to play special effect over the normal street scene to give the effect that the shelter has just a clear glass panel.
Tigers, aliens, giant robots all appeared to shock passers by!

The Best Super bowl Adverts of 2014
The Super Bowl... It's so big it's crossed the pond and even over here in the UK for a couple of weeks running up to the the main event, we get glimpses of the TV commercials which will make their premier during the superbowl.
Why Spend So Much?
Advertising spots within the Super bowl cost a FORTUNE.
But advertisers know their target market will be watching and they also know that all the ads (well as least the good ones) get massive media coverage before and long after the Super-bowl, on both mainstream media and social media channels.
With social media playing an ever bigger part of the experience brands have taken to producing content specifically for social media channels to build up the hype even more.

Everyone's talking about... Content Marketing
The term content marketing has been knocking around for years, but in the run up to Christmas it's something that's really taken off.
So what is Content Marketing and how does it affect you?
Basically it's any form of marketing that involves creating and distributing original, relevant and interesting content to existing and potential customers, with the objective of creating a connection. It's nothing new and you're probably already doing it in one form or another but it's not direct selling.
Welcome to 2014 and Happy New Year from all the iNarrator team.
We hope you had a great Christmas and New Year, we certainly did, there are a few of us now on strict diet and exercise regimes for January!
